Part numbers: Omega GF 620 spare parts catalogue and our 1040 parts data. Order, strip and build: Omega technical guide for calibre 1040 (1972), as printed. The guide leaves the keyless works and the movement part to the usual bench order; here they go in before the hour recorder and the wind. Screws the guide does not list come out before, and go in after, the part they hold. Numbers stamped on the parts are teaching labels; real 1040 parts are not marked with them. Parts are drawn for teaching from the 1040 film drawings, not to scale. Right-drag or two fingers to look around. T shows the tray. F is full screen.

THE BENCH

A full service on a vintage Omega calibre 1040 automatic chronograph, from dial off: the automatic device, the chronograph works, the date and the minute and hour recorders come apart in the order printed in Omega’s 1972 guide, then the keyless works and the movement side, into seven trays. It goes back in the guide’s own build order. Every part with its number.

Learn shows every part, tool and number. Practise asks you to name the next part before it moves. Rounds after the first are Practise. Numbers stamped on the parts are teaching labels, not factory marks.
