Omega 865 parts list: the Chronostop parts people hunt, and what else fits

The calibre 865 is the hand-wound, single-pusher chronograph in the Chronostop, from about 1966 to 1970. Omega's GF 620-4 catalogue lists 96 part numbers for it. Here are the ones people hunt, with the Speedmaster calibres that share each one. Most of the 865 is Speedmaster: 70 of its parts are shared with the 860 family, so a broken 860 or 861 is a parts source for it, and the other way round.

What else fits

70of the 96 parts are also listed for the 860, the Speedmaster family's base calibre
63are also listed for the 861, the Speedmaster Professional movement
23are listed for the 865 alone: its plate, bridges and single-pusher works

Every part the 865 shares with the Speedmaster family is listed for the 860, so an 860 is the most complete donor; the 861 shares 63 and the decorated 863 shares 45. The catalogue's 865 section is dated 1967, two years before the 860's own section, and it already uses 860 part numbers. For the same interchange seen from the Speedmaster side, see the 861 parts list.

One pusher, not two. The 865 runs its chronograph from a single pusher, and the parts that do it are its own: the operating lever, hammer, hammer spring, hammer bolt and bolt spring are listed for the 865 alone. A two-pusher 860 or 861 won't supply them.
Check the motion work. The cannon pinion, centre wheel and hour wheel are the H0 versions, listed for the 860 but not the 861 or 863. Match the number before taking them from a Speedmaster movement.

Source: the 865 section of Omega's GF 620-4 spare-parts catalogue (1967, folios 1 to 5), as transcribed into the Watch Breaker parts database. "Also listed for" means the same part number is printed for that calibre in the Speedmaster family (860, 861 and 863), in Omega's catalogues or technical guides. The parts finder shows every calibre a part fits. A part number's prefix shows the calibre it was first made for, not every calibre it fits. Not sure it's an 865?

With the caseback off, look for the calibre number on the balance cock; the 865 is not marked on the plate. One pusher on the case, hand-wound, 27 mm: that is the Chronostop layout. Two pushers means a Speedmaster family movement such as the 860 or 861. The calibre lookup has the specifications, and the Genève guide lists the Chronostop references (145.0009 and 145.0010 for the 865).

Questions people ask

Are Omega 861 and 865 parts interchangeable?

Many are. Of the 96 part numbers Omega lists for the 865, 63 are also listed for the Speedmaster's 861, including the balance, escapement, shock protection, keyless works and most of the chronograph coupling. The plate, bridges, winding stem, fourth wheel and the single-pusher works are the 865's own.

What is the Omega calibre 865?

The hand-wound, single-pusher chronograph movement in the Omega Chronostop, from about 1966 to 1970. It measures 27 mm across and 5.70 mm high, beats at 21,600 an hour, and is marked on the balance cock rather than the plate.

Which parts are unique to the Omega 865?

23 of its 96 part numbers are listed for the 865 alone: the plate and bridges, crown wheel and core, winding stem, fourth wheel, chronograph runner, the single-pusher operating lever, hammer, hammer spring, hammer bolt and bolt spring, the pallet and roller jewels, the casing clamp and a few screws and jewels.

Where can I buy Omega 865 parts?

Swatch Group stopped supplying spare parts to independent wholesalers at the end of 2015, so 865 parts come from used stock and donor movements. The parts people hunt are listed on this page with live eBay searches, and the parts finder shows which calibres share any part.
