Omega oil map: which oil goes where

As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, Watch Breaker earns from qualifying purchases.

Omega's technical guides mark every point that takes oil or grease, and which lubricant goes there. Here they are as a table, part by part, in the guide's own order: the 861 chronograph and the automatic device of calibres 550 to 565.

Oiling a movement is a watchmaker's job. The wrong oil, or too much of it, can stop a watch or wear it out. This page reports what Omega's guides say; it is general information, not instructions. Watch Breaker does not service watches.

The lubricants and Omega's codes

Omega gives each lubricant a code in its later guides. The codes below are the ones the 861 guide prints.

Calibres 550, 551, 552, 563, 564 and 565: the automatic device, 15 points

Source: Omega Technical Guide No. 13, automatic calibre 551 (June 1959). The guide covers the automatic device that these calibres share, and names one oil for all of it: Synta-Visco-Lube. It no longer appears in Omega's later guides; ask your watchmaker what they use in its place. Parts lists: 565 parts and the 560 to 565 data sheet.

Questions people ask

What oil does an Omega 861 take?

Omega's technical guide for the 861 (May 1995) names six lubricants across 42 points: D5 (Omega code 1.14) at 13, Jismaa 124 B-SP (2.17) at 11, Moebius 9010 (1.15) at 7, Blasolube 316 (2.09) at 7, Moebius 9020 (1.16) at 3 and Moebius 9415 (2.16) on the escape wheel teeth.

What is Omega lubricant code 1.15?

In Omega's 861 technical guide, code 1.15 is Moebius 9010, a fine oil. It goes on the chronograph runner, coupling wheel and chronograph bridge pivots, the escape wheel bridge jewel, one train bridge hole and the Incabloc jewels.

What oil does Omega specify for the 550 to 565 automatic?

Omega Technical Guide No. 13 (June 1959) names Synta-Visco-Lube for the automatic device of calibres 550, 551, 552, 563, 564 and 565: the bridge jewels, the rotor axle pivot, the winding wheel teeth, the gib and the ratchet wheel. We don't suggest a modern substitute; ask your watchmaker.

Can I oil my vintage Omega myself?

Practise first. The Bench lets you strip and rebuild the 565, 564 and 861 in your browser and shows each drop going on with the oil Omega names. Oiling a real movement takes the right tools and training; done wrong it can stop the watch.
